Talk: Common Eye Vision Problems and EyeStrain Prevention (31 July 2014/Thurs/11am)
Almost all of us use a computer or a portable electronic device such as laptop, mobile phone or video game player these days. If your activities revolve around these devices or you spend more than three hours a day working at close range, chances are you might experience some sort of visual fatigue. You may be prone of back/neck aches, headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision, red watery eyes or difficulty focusing. Learn about the Common Eye and Vision Problems and how you can prevent EyeStrain.

Tiong-Peng Yap graduated from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, U.K. He sits on an Expert Panel on Vision Therapy with the Singapore Health Ministry and he is often invited to speak at professional optometric conferences internationally - often covering topics such as children vision development, amblyopia (lazy eye), visual floaters, visual stress, computer vision syndrome, colorimetry and sports vision. Tiong-Peng is a senior consultant optometrist at IGARD Group.
FAQ
1. Do I need to remove my contact lenses or glasses? Please wear your most current spectacles or contact lenses during your eye check. If you have a written copy of the prescription, please bring it along. In some (rare) instances, it may be necessary to remove contact lenses and this will be instructed by the consultant.
2. How do I change my appointment date/time? You may first CANCEL your old appointment via the link on your confirmation email and then re-book your new appointment date/time via the website.
3. Where is the venue? What if I am unable to attend the event? The eye check will be held at the Amphi Room (Level 3) on July 31st (Thurs) afternoon. If you are unable to attend on this day, you may wish to visit the website http://www.igard.com.sg/index.php?pr=Book_an_Eye_Test to re-schedule your own appointment at IGARD Centre at 51 Cuppage Road #01-04 (Behind CentrePoint at Orchard Road). Select "Standard Eye Examination" and please indicate "CGG Eye Check" in the remarks field. Appointment is available on Mon, Thurs, Fri and Sat from 10.30am to 5pm only. The deadline for a special appointment booking is on Aug 8th (and your appointment date must be before Aug 30th).
4. What if I cannot attend? Registration is a commitment to attend. If you are unable to attend, please CANCEL your appointment at least 30hours in advance via the link on your confirmation email. Alternatively, it is possible to re-arrange your appointment separately at IGARD Centre (Behind CentrePoint at Orchard Road). Follow the instructions above for appointment booking.
5. How do I take part in the lucky draw? You will automatically be eligible for the lucky draw once you register with SG Staff Welfare. 20 pairs of IKEYE Brand Spectacles Frames (many designs to choose from) will be given away (courtesy of our Optical Partner ValueSight). Winners will receive a redemption voucher and they must collect this personally after the talk on July 31st (Thurs) 11am-12pm.
6. Will I get a report? Yes. A written copy of report will be issued approximately 6 weeks after the completion of the eye check. At the end of your eye check, the consultant will also briefly explain the results to you. You may ask questions during this short consultation.
7. I have some questions. Who can I ask? Where can I find help? For general enquiries, please email to eyecentre@igard.com.sg. If you have a question relating to your personal eye health or vision, please check with the consultant directly during your personalised appointment.
8. My eyes are red and painful. Can I fix an appointment? If you think that you have an urgent eye problem (e.g. eye pain, redness, light flashes, etc), please do not wait until your appointment date/time. Get professional help immediately if you have an urgent eye problem.
